Born in Vinkovci in 1963. He graduated in sociology from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, in 1988, obtained his Master’s degree in 1994, and completed his PhD in sociology in 2001. He earned his Master’s degree within the postgraduate programme in Social Ecology with a thesis entitled “The Normative Framework of Environmental Protection in the Republic of Croatia: A Sociological Approach”, while his doctoral dissertation focused on “Selected Value Determinants of Deviant Behaviour in Croatian Society”.
His main areas of research and teaching include general sociology, the sociology of crime and social deviance, violence and corruption, as well as the social causes of prejudice and discrimination, with particular emphasis on deviant phenomena and social problems in Croatian society during the transition period.
From 1989 to 1994, he was employed by the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia. From 1994 to 2007, he taught at the Faculty of Criminal Justice Sciences, later the Police College, in Zagreb. Since 2007, he has been employed at the Centre for Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, now the Faculty of Croatian Studies. He is one of the founders of and a lecturer at the Shoah Academy established by the Jewish Community of Zagreb.
He is a member of the Croatian Sociological Association, the Croatian Association of Criminal Investigators, and the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies Alumni Association. He is also a member of the executive board of the Tempo Karate Club in Zagreb. He participated in the Croatian War of Independence and is a recipient of the Homeland War Memorial Medal.
